Au Pair Programme America (USA)

Contract, insurance, driving licence & Co.

Here you can find some information on topics such as the au pair contract, insurance, driver's license and safety.

Contract

Please note: To host an au pair, you need to contact one of the 14 US designated au pair agencies. The latter will process many of the necessary documents. You will sign the contract with your au pair and the designated agency.

The page Costs, working hours, time off & Co. will provide you with more information and details on the framework conditions of the au pair placement.

Health insurance

Normally, your au pair will be insured by the agency you both pick for legal placement in the USA. You will obtain more information on the topic health insurance from your designated agency.

Driving and driver's license

Your au pair will probably drive your car. Therefore, you should clarify questions concerning liability and insurance beforehand. In this context, your designated au pair agency can help you.

Au Pairs in the USA need a valid driver's license. Your agency will also tell you if the national driver's license will suffice or if your au pair will have to present an international document. It is possible that there are different regulations concerning the driver's license according to the various federal states.

Thus, you can ensure that you are on the safe side:

  • Have you already called your au pair on the phone to find out if you like each other? Before your au pair arrives you should discuss important details and questions together. You will find more important tips on our page Security.
  • A sound knowledge of your language will make it easier for your au pair to communicate his/her wishes and needs from the very start. Especially, if the boy/girl is ill or left alone with your children, a corresponding vocabulary can be useful.
